Tanjong Malim, 7 October | Yu Cai Foundation (YCF) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) has signed an agreement to award 20 scholarship worth RM960,000 to 15 students of Bachelor Degree in Education in Chinese language and 5 students of Bachelor Degree in Education in Tamil language at UPSI in 2015 for the duration of their 4 year course.
Upon graduation, these 20 deserving students will be qualified teachers in Mandarin/Tamil based secondary schools. Each successful scholarship recipient will receive RM12,000 per year for 4 years, totaling to RM48,000.
Yu Cai Foundation aims to assist in the nurturing of Mandarin and Tamil teachers to ensure that the competency in the languages do not go into decline. YCF also encourages schools leavers to further their studies in the field of vernacular education and to train asprofessionals to serve the country better.
YCF,an initiative by Chairman of Usaha Tegas Group, Mr. Ananda Krishnan, aims to nurture talent through education.
Yu Cai Foundation believes that vernacular education is contributory to the multilingual and multicultural heritage of the nation. The Foundation also award scholarships to deserving students from eligible primary and secondary schools, and grants to improve teaching equipment in these schools.In addition, YCF also funds qualified individuals in their pursuit of undergraduate and post-graduate studies at home or abroad.
The signing ceremony was attended by YCF Chairman, Mr. Chan Chee Beng, YCF Trustee, Dato' Sri Mahamad Fathilbin Dato' Mahmood, and UPSI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Zakaria Kasa.
One of the scholarship recipients, Ms. Tan Ai Lin, was a Form 6 student in Taiping where she took up Bahasa Malaysia, Economics and Business Management. Due to her excellent Mandarin results in SPM, she met the application criteria of Yu Cai Foundation scholarship.
Ms. Tan comes from a low income family whereby her father worked as a general worker and her mother, a full time housewife.Her father passed away when she was in Form 6and the household income depended on earnings from her older siblings.Being awarded the YCF scholarship means that she now has a chance to complete her tertiary studies, step up on the social ladder and realise her dream.
